Accessibility statement
Last updated: 11 October 2026
We want everyone to be able to use karpachess.com, whatever their device, abilities or assistive technology. If anything gets in your way, email contact@karpachess.com and we will fix it, or give you the information another way.
Scope
This statement covers the website karpachess.com. It does not cover the KarpaChess app, or the App Store and GitHub pages this site links to, whose accessibility is managed by Apple and GitHub.
Standard and conformance status
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Its success criteria include those of WCAG 2.0 and 2.1, the versions most accessibility rules refer to.
Status: self-assessed as conformant to WCAG 2.2 level AA, with the limitations listed below. No other barriers were known when this statement was written. The site has not been audited by an independent third party.
What we have done
- Every page has meaningful headings, landmarks and lists, and a “Skip to content” link at the top.
- Everything works with a keyboard alone, with a clearly visible focus ring. The iPhone and iPad tabs switch with the arrow keys, and the strip of screens scrolls once it has focus. The screenshot viewer keeps focus inside it while open, steps with ← and →, closes with Esc, and returns you to where you were.
- Every screenshot has a text description. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- The site follows your device’s light or dark setting. In both, all text reaches a contrast of at least 4.5:1 (measured), and links within text are underlined, so they never rely on colour alone.
- Content reflows on screens as narrow as 320 pixels, and stays usable when text is enlarged to 200%.
- Animations and smooth scrolling are turned off when your device asks to reduce motion.
- The page language is declared, and so is the language of each language name (Français, العربية, 中文, हिन्दी…), so screen readers pronounce them correctly.
- There are no time limits, no media that plays by itself, no flashing content, and no pop-ups or cookie banners to dismiss.
- Help is always in the same place: the “Support” link in the footer of every page.
Known limitations
- App screenshots are pictures of the app’s screens, so the text inside them cannot be enlarged or read aloud on its own. Each one has a text description of what it shows.
- Our host’s security check. If Cloudflare, which serves this site, suspects a visit is automated, it can show a check page before ours. That page is Cloudflare’s, not ours. If it ever stops you, tell us.
Technologies relied on
HTML, CSS, WAI-ARIA and JavaScript. Every page’s text can be read without JavaScript. Only the menu on narrow screens, the iPad tab and the screenshot viewer need it, and every place the menu leads to is also linked from the footer.
How this statement was prepared
The site was checked by its publisher on 11 October 2026: a review of the code against each WCAG 2.2 level A and AA success criterion, measurement of every text and focus-ring colour pair in both the light and the dark palette, and a look at every page at 320 pixels wide. We review this statement whenever the site changes significantly.
